The interest of young pupils in the Football World Championship in Germany initiated the 'Deutschmobil' which travelled through the country giving information about this event, the country and its language. The approach was extracurricular with institutional support to foster learning of German as a basic foreign language in Iceland. The focus was on language learning as a fun experience in order to motivate youngsters. The learning environment was located on sportsgrounds or school yards and not in classrooms. In a quiz that linked sports and language a trip to one of the matches in Berlin could be won.
