MOLAN Information System
This website presents the main outcomes of the MOLAN network project. MOLAN's ultimate aim is to motivate young Europeans in formal education to learn and to continue learning languages.
In March 2002, the EU heads of state and government agreed on the need to improve the mastery of basic skills, "in particular by teaching at least two foreign languages from a very early age". The implementation of this policy is by no means easy. One of the reasons is that many young people do not believe in the value of multilingualism, dropping languages in secondary education or focusing exclusively on English.
There is general agreement that motivation is key to language learning. Educational institutions have an important role in enhancing the motivation of young people to learn languages. MOLAN seeks to empower institutions and language professionals in the various sectors of education by promoting the exchange and dissemination of information about successful policies, strategies, and practices.
This web site presents case studies from schools and higher education institutions across Europe. The case studies describe and analyse initiatives which have been successful in motivating young Europeans to learn and continue learning languages. Learn more about MOLAN
